Letter from the new President

January 2014

Professor in Communication and Leadership

Euprera President 2014-2015

Dear fellow members, colleagues and friends,

On behalf of Euprera and in my own name, I wish you an inspiring and happy year 2014.

The body of knowledge in strategic communication, public relations and organizational communication is expanding fast than ever. Without any doubt, the hegemony of a limited number of schools of thought and countries has diminished. Researchers from all over Europe contribute with a variety of methods and approaches. We can be proud of what has been achieved in our region - especially in the areas of cross-national and cross-cultural research, which is more important than ever in a globalized world.

Like any academic and professional community, Euprera relies on its members to foster new ideas and drive initiatives. The board invites everyone to join our community and to start collaborative projects with fellow members.

We invite scholars teaching at universities and colleges on a national level to explore what is going on in the international arena. We invite next generation researchers, especially Ph.D. candidates, to join the emerging network of next generation public relations scholars in Europe. And we invite professionals working in the industry to meet academics and share thoughts about state-of-the-art research and education, which will help the profession to grow both steady and sustainable.

Please mark September 11-13 in your schedule right now. This is the date for the Euprera Annual Congress 2014, to be staged in Brussels, one of the most international capitals in Europe. The congress will focus on Communication Ethics in a Connected World. But it also offers a forum for the latest insights and papers in public relations research in general. The Euprera congress is the premier place to meet researchers from all over the continent and from abroad. It is great to attend if you are new to the community. You might also want to submit a paper or panel proposal for presentation - the call for abstracts is open until February 28th, 2014.

I would like to thank our past-president, Valérie Carayol, for her leadership and the time invested in our association during the past two years. I am looking forward to serve the membership and the community together with her and fellow board members, Adela Rogojinaru, Øyvind Ihlen and Virginia Villa, and with trusted colleagues who head the research committee (Ralph Tench) and take care of finances (Etienne Claes).

Dr. Ansgar Zerfass
President of Euprera
