EUPRERA Paper Development Workshop (PDW)

About the PDW

The PDW is positioned as a complement to the regular EUPRERA congress program, covering aspects and encouraging interactions not usually featured in the main program. The PDW is structured as a workshop with a highly interactive format focused on developing papers for publication in top academic journals. It provides a forum for exchanging ideas and building relationships in a manner that does not typically fit the constraints of paper presentations in regular conference sessions. Knowledge sharing and interactive participation are key in the PDW.

All PDW participants commit to reading the papers of other workshop participants and providing written feedback before the congress so that the emphasis of the session can be placed on more in-depth discussion. Further, each paper is paired with an invited senior discussant (an advanced scholar with very strong expertise in the focus area of the respective paper) who provides feedback based on their experience and with a particular emphasis on publishing in highly competitive journals.

The PDW is a closed workshop format for authors of accepted papers and invited senior respondents. It will take place as a pre-conference (mid-day to afternoon) on the opening day of the EUPRERA conference.

Who can apply?

All scholars are invited to apply. We particularly encourage the submission of mature papers with a potential towards very strong conceptual/empirical contributions.

How to apply?

Submissions for the PDW are made during standard paper submissions for the EUPRERA congress through the ConfTool. When submitting, applicants have the opportunity to opt-in to “submit also to the PDW”. When ticking this box, papers will be considered for the standard program as well as for the PDW.

Selection process

Once papers are accepted for the main congress, they can enter the PDW selection process, which will take about two weeks. Based on the congress reviews, top papers are evaluated by the PDW committee for their quality and publication potential, and the career stage of the applicant(s). In case of high demand, preference is given to rather mature full-paper submissions and to submissions from main authors who are aiming for promotion into tenured faculty positions (esp. mid-career researchers).

History of the EUPRERA Paper Development Workshop

The EUPRERA Paper Development Workshop was initiated by Alexander Buhmann and Sophia Volk in 2020 and first offered at the EUPRERA Congress in 2021. It has since been run annually at the EUPRERA congress to support emerging scholars (esp. mid-career level) in advancing their manuscripts towards publication in leading academic journals.
